Finally I decided to replace my new Dell with Window XP..but unfortunately I can just delete or remove Window Vista from the computer control panel. So in order for me to do that I "google" some site where all these geeks teach me how to get ride Vista.I think I didn't clean up Vista completely before download Window XP,so now my Dell go bonker!!!.I quickly reinstall again Vista but it's won't take my existing modem, that mean No Internet connection!!.I called up Dell, they told me if I install XP in the hard drive ,if anything goes wrong in the hard drive the one year warranty won't cover because I violate the agreement!!.And he said my Dell computer hard drive make for Vista not XP,so it's not compatibility.Isn't true? But told them I reinstall back Vista,is still won't function .Dell customer service(of course from India) said there is nothing wrong with the computer!!.It's my Internet connection!!.So I called my cable company(in Long Island),a gentleman who is so nice assist and advise me what he do .I told him my problem,he said maybe I installed 2 OS in the same hard drive. He asked me to use the same modem for old computer, but I told him it's won't get connection too.He said I have to unplugged the modem from all the hard wire and let it rest for one minute. Then I can connect again to the old computer.Oh!! yes he is right!!..Right now I have to use old computer looking for a website he introduced me to clean up the Windows and reinstall XP.But ..but all this site guide us to clean XP not Vista!!..Now I'm so confuse..Elliot laugh at me,seeing me using his old computer yesterday..I need help!! Anyone out there is good with this mess??

Beachlover,
My hubby had to remove Vista and install XP too. He said in order to properly install xp, over vista you need to wipe out the hard drive and start as if the hd is new.
1st wipe out hard drive
2nd format hard drive
3rd create partistions
4th install xp
5th modify your bios as you go
6th load all driver that are needed.
You can go to seagate.com. Look for installing a new harddrive. Your drive does not need to be a seagate drive, the program will still work.
I hope that helps you. He too agreed that Vista really sucks as a lot of other programs are not compatible with Vista.
Good luck.
Beachlover,
I forgot to tell you earlier, to clear your data from your HD, it's better to write 0's to the HD. You can reformat the drive but it is better to try and write 0's to the drive. that way no information is left on the HD!
This is what he said he did: Set the bios to 1st boot is floppy.. the program on the floppy (which should be copied from the seagate website) will take over and follow the directions(will be promped as you go). after "0" wrote, reboot to bios, set to which ever drive you want to boot from to install xp.
Hope what my hubby wrote makes sense. Let me know if it doesn't. You can email me at dawn.tice@gmail.com for more questions and I will have my hubby to reply them.
Beachlover,
every time my hubby's clients asked him to remove Vista and install XP, he always wipe out the hard drive first. Basically, he has to do like the guide given by dawn before install XP on the pc.
In this case you already had a Windows operating system installed, and you installed Windows Vista on a separate partition of your harddisk. Now you want to remove Windows Vista and keep your previous Windows operating system.
Don't forget to make a backup as there are some risks with removing Vista!
Instruction from http://www.removevista.com/remove_uninstall_delete_windows_vista_xp_a.html
This is what you need:
- Windows Vista installation DVD
This is what you should do:
1. Start your computer selecting Windows XP from the boot menu
2. Insert the Windows Vista installation DVD into your drive and close the menu that might open
3. Go to START > RUN > and type: "e:\boot\bootsect.exe /nt52 ALL /force” (without quotes, and replace e: with the drive letter of your Vista DVD).
4. Restart your computer and boot into Windows XP
5. Format the drive where Windows Vista was installed on
6. Remove two files (Boot.BAK & Bootsect.BAK) on your XP root folder (e.g. C:\)
This should remove your Windows Vista installation and make XP the default operating system.
Hard drive make for Vista not XP is wrong. Hard drive can be use with any software (Vista,XP,Linux, etc).
This link explain in detail on how to remove Vista & replace it with XP. http://www.chuckegg.com/how-to-remove-microsoft-vista-and-replace-it-with-windows-xp/
Please make sure you have all the drivers for your video, sounds, printer, modem, etc.
Thank you both Dawn and Yatie's for your advise and help!!..I'm know nothing about computer and when I removed vista from my Dell and install XP,my new toy go haywired!!.I can't get connection at all and my OS have 2 Windows!! Ouch!!.I think the most important is I don't undertand all the IT term advise guide I google.I see in my Device Manager that my cable modem and Bus Controller is not recongize .At last I decided to call DELL again to guide me through the process of reinstall and cleaning!!.The whole process take me 6 hours and I stayed up until 9 am without sleep!!.Yes,DEll call me back few time coz the downloading take some time to complete. They even used DELL Connect to view my screen in able for them to do it easily!.This time the person is better, gave me choice to install XP or Vista but I don't have XP CD Drive and Utilities, only Premium Home Editions. But the tech said I need to install XP CD Drive and Utilities beside PHE CD in order for my machine to work properly.I guess they design this machine differently. At last I have to reinstall back Vista in my machine.oh my!! it's really a hell for me who don't understand any code or term in the computer to install ,reinstall and clean up!! now go back to square one .better than dead 2 days b4!!..oh yes my cable modem doesn't support Vista with USB and have to use Enthernet!!Thank again for both your hubbys advise.I really appreciated it:))
Hope you get it fixed soon. Me IT dummy so no help here. Sorry!
