I Signed Up for Wilton Cake Decorating Class!!

I always admire and envy chef or baker who can decorate their cake with perfection.I recalled many moons ago after I graduated from high school,I wanted so much to enroll in Hotel and Catering Management School or Baking and Cooking School. But at that time Malaysia don't have large selection of cooking and baking school available in KL.Furthermore the school fee is so damn high!!While I was working full time in a well establishment fast food company,I do attend a 6 months course in Hotel and Catering Management at Bangsar,KL from my own expenses. Before I can accept my certificate of completion from the school,I'm on my way flying to New York.Well,my sister have to represent me to accept my cert behalf on me.At that time,I choose to follow my the other dream....see the world!!.Long story short,I don't come from a well off family who can sponsor me.So my dream just drift away....Anyway I choose my career in food industry......even though I don't have professional training in baking and cooking, that doesn't stop me from baking and cooking!Maybe one day,I will enroll myself in Culinary School.Last week I signed up for Wilton's basic cake decorating classes at AC Moore.
This is the schedule given to me.The 1st Decorating Class consist of 4 classes. One class per week for 2 hours each. The fee....is nothing!!.$40 for all 4 classes plus I get 25% off with a gift from Wilton!.But I have to buy the material list given by my teacher from Wilton..What do you think about this class?.Reasonable ,cheap or expensive?

After I complete my 1st Decorating classes I'm going to sign up for Fondant classes next!!.Elliot agree to look after Mishu for 3 hours while I'm gone.Wooohoooo!!
I also bought this Baking recipe book from AC Moore for $5.00..Actual this baking recipe is for people who like quick meal or short cut way of baking.
I bought this Fondant Cake Set for 50% off the original price..I think I paid $13 plus tax for this set.I know what you're thinking, this woman still don't know how to decorate Fondant but already buy this set!!..Well,I'm well prepare for my up coming classes!!lol!!..I guess this summer,I'm going to be very very busy.My ex-boss called me up and ask me to work for him during summer.Last summer I didn't take his offer. Now I'm debating to take that offer or not..My problem is to arrange a babysitter for Mishu..It's not a easy task especially I'm going to work during weekend and late hour.

Lesley, I took both the classes in January 08 and it was good. You will learn all the basic of butter cream decorations and as for the fondant you can see I put up some pictures of what we did in class at my other blog. Overall it was good but the only down side is you need to buy a lot of tools for the fondant class and it cost quite a bit of money. I still have one class to attend which is the Cake Decoration 2.

The class fee is reasonable, I think. After you graduate, you have to bake me a cake, hor...hehe.

As for working, since you will be working weekends, can hubby look after Mishu? What did you do before becoming a SAHM?

Lesley, that is good for you to pursue your interest. I hope you will find a baby sitter for Mishu. I am sure it will not be so hard since many people like to take up summer jobs. Good luck with your summer job and classes! Have fun!

Gert,I guess you took your cake deco classes with Wilton but have no idea you took in AC Moore.oh! I thought you have complete all the classes.I need to ask you what I should buy for fondant class ,I can buy with weekly 50% rather then wait for the teacher to give me list and ask me to buy there and then with no discount.I will call you soon.Tommorrow I have dentist appointment for crown and then cake class later.

JOAT:
You also wanna to take cake deco classes?Good for you:)waaaaa...then we can exchange cake in Christmas lor!!lol!! Somemore with going to take stain glass class!!.Actually I'm going to take sewing class when I was in Msia but time not permitted. Here I have no idea where can I take sewing classes.

I also don't have patience person. You know what,I took up fishing many moons ago. They said by fishing you will gradually train yourself be patience.I'm the living proof!!.

Hi,
The class fee is cheap but I afraid of the material cost. You know sometime, they just want you to buy their product, they just push you to buy it even if you don't need it.Sure I will bake you cake :).My hubby sometimes work weekend too,so that a little bit hard.I work in food industry b4 became SAHM.Mishu can feed herself, take her own bath, dress and undress herself and clean herself after toilet,so it's not really hard to take care her, just have to watch her NOT getting into trouble.

Zue:
Thank you for your support.Hubby suggest his mom to watch Mishu. His mom can't really do things for Mishu but at least she can just seat there and watch Mishu not getting in trouble.Problem is hubby don't trust stranger with Mishu.Banyak susah punya orang*sign*.

I just signed up for the Course 1 class. There is SOOO much stuff to buy, the class fee for me was $21.00 and the supplies will cost probably over $40.00 on top of that... I'm excited though to learn how to decorate cakes.... Just a tad expensive...
