Yesterday,we had to leave home at 5.00 am.We have to pick up my Mil from her place in the city to St Luke Hospital 2 block away from her apt.She had an appointment to insert a pacemaker in her chest. She would like hubby to accompany her until her surgery done and make sure she is in stable condition. It's a minor procedure, just take less than 2 hours.St Luke Hospital located at Amsterdam Ave and 113 st in Manhattan, there is no parking space around the area, only 1 hour meter parking available. So I offer to drive them and stay in the van.On the way to city,I try to snap some photo while hubby driving through La Guardia Airport and Triboro Bridge. He forbid me to do so,said the city have ample of sky cam and street cam too. When they see I take photo of landmark, bridge and airport, the next day FBI will come and knock at our door.He lecture me,said I should know better these sensitive issue after 9/11.Look at Mishu, she refused to wake up so early, but we have to bring her along..
We are waiting at gas station while daddy go to get Dunkin's coffee.

Mil 's independent home at Upper West Side.

8th Ave and 98 St Upper West Side. After sending hubby and Mil to St Luke's,I'm going to Chinatown to kill the time and do some shopping .Let me show you around NYC ...We cruise NYC at wee hour until noon...let's go...

Lincoln Center

Carnegie Hall, Opera House,Lincoln Center

One Center Park, have plenty of exclusive and expensive store inside.Between Center Park South and 8th Ave.

The other entrance of One Center Park Plaza.

I didn't take West Side Highway instead I'm cruising downtown using local street. The building in brick color,is Empire State Building at 34th and 5th Ave

Can you see Empire State Building??At this wee early hour,so much traffic.Only yellow cab and livery cab on the street.

5 th Ave and 42 st...NYC largest Public Library.

Union Square,14 st and 5th Ave..Look at the building shape with cone....It's about 7.30am

Union Square..I rarely shop here anymore since I moved to Long Island.

SOHO,Broadway and 12 St....still early, shop still didn't open yet..if not this street is very busy and crowded.

Soho,on Broadway. All these photos was took in my van while I'm cruising the city,so you can see the glasses reflection. It's really cold outside ,at 20 plus F minus 10 F wind blow.Beside that Manhattan is surrounded by water,so it's really cold compare with other city area.

I never see this shop before,what...is Mango???hmmmmm that mean it's quite sometime I didn't come here.

Remember the TV series,Felicity, shooting their series at Soho? She working at this store?...yea..that Dean and Deluca!!

I like to see NYC old ,historical and Architectural building.

I'm surprised Bloomingdale's open in Soho.Previously it was Urban Outfitter store.

I'm going to make left hand turn in Broom St,Broadway is only one way street going down town.

My dream to learn cooking and baking at this school...Broadway and Broom St

Here I come ,Chinatown.....Grand St and Mott St

Famous Italian meat store in Little Italy

Delivery trucks, deliver perishable ,meat and fish for the store .

I decide to get Dim Sum breakfast, but at 8.00am no much Dim Sum restaurant open yet on weekday. We went to "Mei Wah Lai" very old coffee shop in Chinatown..Dim Sum there is not much selection but it's OK for us.Anyway,it's too early for Mishu to eat much.Look,Mishu is eating Shrimp Dumpling.

hmmmmm....yummy especially sweet soy sauce

OK...no more sweet soy sauce,mummy!!

Mishu going to take the sauce on the table "no,no, no"...eeerrhh..how about just eat what you have in your plate for now,Mishu?".

She finish her shrimp dumpling and want another plate,so I order another plate of Shrimp dumpling for her,of course...she just toy with the sauce and said done!.Mummy have to finish her shrimp dumpling, don't waste la...I order her a cup of hot Ovaltine but Mishu refuse to drink it.

After our breakfast,we walk around shopping..Mishu is in her Mercedes "Mc Claren".We just come out from Asian store, and it's snowing lightly...

You can see the white snow flake flying around us.....

We are so cold and freezing.I forget to bring Mishu's gloves and offer to buy her a pair but she refused said "no,no, no'.Well..she rather stuff her hands in her pocket.

Center St and Canal St...

Canal St..Can you see the billboard??.They changing the clothe billboard ..what a big project!!

Lafayette St..People start coming out to do their business as usual..

Fer Dat Bakery on Mott St..I like their special bun..

Fer Dat cake showcase..

Chinese New Year is around the corner..Look what they are selling now!!..

OK..after shopping and eating,we heading to my van....too tired and cold...eerrrh...I hope I didn't get a ticket!!..it's said one hour parking only but I park for more than 3 hours!!!I'm so lucky... found a broken meter..hehehe....The yellow pail is for sanitation worker to clean up the street...

oh!! here it's is....my van...still there..in one piece..hahaha!! you will never know what happen to your car when you park in Chinatown at the roadside..of course, there is private hourly parking but it's damn expensive...$12.00 or more plus tax an hour or more depand on the off peak or peak hour!!....Ok...Mishu let's go to pick up your daddy ..

Again ,I used local street to travel back uptown..Another bakery at Grand St and Bowery St..I called hubby but his cell go to his voice mail.....hmmmm...maybe the hospital don't allow cell phone..let see.....Ok...stay tune for next post....I'm going to show you all the food I bought.....

You're so brave to drive into Manhattan. I'm chicken, I never drive in Manhattan cos too much traffic, drivers are too aggressive plus I don't know the way...hehe.

catcat:
Sure..no problem. You never been to NYC??..Hmmm...Big Apple is nice to visit but not to live, expensive. The best season to visit is around Spring and Fall.
totmom:
once in life time,Big Apple is a must place to visit
JOAT:
Sure ,bila mau datang?..I guess you have to visit only when your kids out of school..Summer is hot but have more flea market and side walk cafe everywhere..one of my friend refuse to visit during summer, said the city smell busuk!! hahaha!!
Suesue;

BBO:
are you asking me to take wet vegetable market photo?its same like the one we have in KL la..Open air and every store have scale and auntie or uncle jaga ..I Chinatown ,Manhattan mostly the vendor speak cantonese and in Flushing, the vendor speak Mandarin.
LCOM:
You should visit NYC once wt whole family .Since your children are not in school yet,you can choose low season to come rather than summer ,high season. If you like museum, art, shopping and makan,NYC is a nice place to visit.
Puteri:
Bila mau mari, give me a shout.I willingly be your special tour guide...hahaha!!..You will like it here,we have plenty of flea market and handicraft work.
Hooi Imm..
When you visit city(we called Manhattan city) you better take public transportation, finding parking is really a pain unless you know the area well, and have alot of patience.Yes,you have to drive more aggresively than the city bus, yellow cab and livery cab if not they eat you up like chicken. They are the worst driver, doesn't care you signal or not ,just jump infront of you.
There are few good dimsum restaurant in Flushing too..you don't have to go that far into the city.I will go to city once awhile or when hubby visit MIL.Park your car at LIRR station then take LIRR to Penn Station,From there just buy one day subway pass for subway..you are good to go anywhere in the city within 24 hour.
