I promised to post about my Queens trip .I visited my dear friend,Ms J and her family on Christmas eve..We went to Sripraphai Thai's restaurant for dinner.I would strongly recommend this restaurant to anyone who happen to be in NYC .This is NOT paid post but I been there so many times and the food are really excellent and delicious!!..I had dinner and lunch in this restaurant with 3 different friends,in 3 different occasion, off peak period, peak busy, very busy and before it renovated ,look like kopi tiam (coffee shop)..Most all the time the food standard maintained the same level..busy or not busy...the taste always excellent!!
We didn't call in for reservation, though Christmas eve's everybody go away for holiday but to our surprised,we had to wait for 35-45 minutes before get a table.

This view from back dinning room..The front waiting line is really full and pack.So ,I bring Mishu to wait at the back.....

We love this place but the service is so-so only..I guess with the moderate price and contemporary design..this place is really popular!! ..In US ,Thai's food are always widely know and surpass Malaysia food..especially to young American .

Look at Mishu, she want to open the back door and see the Christmas light..

Their backyard fountain open air but for winter they display Christmas decoration..During summer,it's like side walk cafe style...open dinning style..

I told Mishu she can't open the back door because it's really cold and other people who seating enjoying their meal is going to scream at her....Well,then she decided to climb to high chair later

We are still waiting after 30 minutes...look at Mishu...she going nut and cranky..She want to pull the fire extinguisher..

At last we get our table...look at the menu...delicious and attractive...right??

Mostly, American order by picture because it's hard for them to pronounce the name and it's hard for the wait staff to explain the meal.So all Asian restaurant will put food photo for their American customer .Picture speak thousand words..I strongly agreed with that..

Mishu is half American,,so she need picture too!!..hahaha!!

oh!! my!!..I never eat petai at all while growing up until now..The last and first time I tried petai when I was at 10 year old and I dislike it because of the pungent smell..My friend ordered this dish, thought I love spicy food, but I told her I don't take petai, she ask me to try some ,so I took a piece of petai and it's really not bad and crunchy, the smell not too strong.Maybe the petai in US come in frozen form, not so pungent. You know ,what I eat most of the petai and 'tai pau"(doggie bag) home with me..All this years,I dunno what I had miss!!..I guess, when we growing up or getting old our body changed. So Petai, watch out!!..I'm going to whacked petai with my own sambal shrimp!!..oh!!!here come my funny and embarrassing story.....hmmmmmm......maybe next post...if not the foods don't look good anymore *delete, delete and delete!!*

Fried fish cake and Papaya salad..it's really good!!

Fried whole chicken..Mishu love the dipping sauce..tangy sweet and nutty flavour..

Panang chicken and Minced Basil Chicken...oh! my...both this meal are really a A PLUS!!..The chef drizzle the coconut milk on top of the meal before serving.....you can see the white coconut milk on the dish..

Ready to " take out"..All the dessert and paste in fridge are for sale!!

Look appetizing and cute but I think the price is slightly over pricing..I understand some vendor or aunties distributed their delicacies and dessert to store and restaurant all over the city. But I think this restaurant make it's own dessert because all the dessert printed the restaurant name on it.

I think it's jelly..Pretty and colorful fruit design.....must find out where they get the mold...hehehe!!

Catfish chili Paste...the number 4 is indicate the price.

Ms J bought me this dessert ,for me to take home....I eat it today,it's very flavourful of coconut flavor..that mean good but I think it's expensive ...5 small pieces kuih in 8 oz container for $2.50

This is how it's look..inside...like kuih talam or seri muka but it's jelly base..

Another dessert..... Ms J bought for me..

The coconut milk taste good but the small sago(tapioca) is very hard,I think it's under cook.

Another paste....all in 8 oz container.

this dessert look like Kuih Jala..or steam egg..

Fried Fish ...also available??..Ikan Kembung(mackerel)?

Viola!! Chendol!!..

Another section for sweet delicacies.....cookies and cake

Or sweet and candy......anyone??..
I would like to thanks Ms J and her family to treat Mishu and me for this wonderful and delicious dinner...

First time here. Just blog hopping. Mmmm... the food looks yummy. And I haven't had petai in ages too. I'm now in Hong Kong so, can't get good Malaysian food here, especially the really spicy stuff. :(
Wah looks delicious..but I also dislike petai..haha..here the Thai food..so so..nia.
Looks like a one stop place, got food, dessert and cookies!
Wah...love the food, variety of dessert and cookies!! The Thai food here is also so so only, not that much choice and certainly no petai in the menu.
So now you like petai he heee. Good so we have kaki to eat petai together :) The jelly you are talking about is actually made out of mung bean paste and formed into miniature fruits and painted in bright colors and then dipped in agar-agar to make them shiny. I am not sure of its Thai name.
Wei, did I hear kaki to eat petai...?? Add me to the list... I'm #1 if come to petai... I can forgo all other food but petai, I can eat day and night for a week... Give me petai anytime..

Hi Beachlover, wow! Love your pictures. Took me 15 minutes to go thru all.
You have a beautiful daughter. Looking at her, I now know what her mother looks like.
I take this opportunity to wish Mishu, her gorgeous mummy, and daddy a very happy new year. All my best regards, UL.
Thai food always taste delicious. The dessert that looks like cute mini fruits, I think is called 'Lap Chup'. It is made from green beans. I don't think so they have a mould for it. When I was in Bangkok, it is all handmade leh.
Beautiful pictures! Is it taken with your new camera?
