The yellow color called "bloody nest" in Chinese and also graded upper grade compare with the regular white.That mean it's more pricey!!.I think the regular white bird nest I bought in Chinatown,NYC and the" bloody nest "bought by my mom from Malaysia
This bowl is for Mishu.Of course,daddy refused to drink it after I tell him it's BIRD-saliva from the NEST!!!.He said disgusting and yucky!!.hahahaa!! He don't know how to appreciated Chinese delicacies.
Simmer for almost 5 hours,you still can see Birdnest intact together in this dessert soup.
I forget to get a new Chinese ceramic double boiler from Asian supermarket.I still think I have my 16 oz boiler,keep looking high and low.Then I realise that Mishu broke it last year.So,what should I use?.Hmmm...how about white cream brulee ceramic??.That right it's as good as Chinese boiler.Alternative solution.
Look at how Mishu seat!!.She is drinking bird nest soup for the first time.She even produce the noise"sluuuurppppp".Her daddy watch with big eyes!!.Yeah,eat and drink like real Chinaman!!"Yes,she love it cause it's a semi-sweet dessert soup!!.

My mom bought a box of bird nest when she come to visit me 3 years ago.Mostly bird nest in US come from Indonesia,so I request my mom to buy in Malaysia,thinking it's will be cheaper than buying in US, Chinatown.One of my friend told me to feed Mishu bird nest when she was born but my mom disagree with my suggestion.So,far I didn't make the effort to cook anything with it,out of sight, out of mind.I store it in the corner of my freezer,hidden.
Okay,it's time to cook some bird nest for Mishu.The only way I know to cook it is very easy.
Here is goes....
Ingredients;
1 liter water
2 pcs large golden birdnest
1 pc white birdnest
10 pcs dried red date (pitted)
2 pcs rock sugar
Method:
Take out birdnest from freezer and soak in cold water overnight.(I bought clean birdnest,coz I dunno how to do the cleaning,unclean is slightly cheaper)Fill water in a pot and Chinese ceramic double boiler ,add above ingredients except rock sugar at medium heat for 4 hours.Add rock sugar and boil for another 30 minutes .Serve at warm or cold.
Note:
My Chinese ceramic double boiler was broken by Mishu last year,so I use white Creme Brulee ware as double boiler and cover with corning plate.If you don't have Chinese ceramic boiler,don't worry just use any ceramic bowl that will take heat.
Mishu finish 1 bowl and another glass of Birdnest soup to my surprised.Not bad for first timer.It's good for her health as they said.Maybe in future I will cook birdnest soup for her once a month. Have to convince her daddy to paid for this pricey delicacies.

Your gal rocks! I hope my gal would eat anything I present to her. :) For now, she seems to be eating everything I give her even spicy food. She's only 17 months old. ;)

That good,you train your dotter eat asian foods at early age,then she will eventually used to it when she grow up.I believe we are not born with our preferance.Mishu been eating everything now not even 3 year old.I would like her to expose to chinese culture,etc since her daddy wanna me to speak ONLY chinese to her.The reason globelisation.
Wish we cud have a bowl!
