Gertrude .It's a wonderful meeting with another Malaysians. We all went for lunch in New Malaysia Restaurant at Elizabeth St and Bowery St.I'm so grateful to both of them to treat Mishu and me lunch.Thank you very much!.Well,I'm kind of late due to 'road work' on, long-island and road closed on littleitalynyc .I feel so embarrassed that I was late and both of them travel from Philly can arrived on time.I would like to apologize to both of them again.
We all went to grocery shopping in Bangkok Center Grocery and Asian Food Market explorechinatown after lunch.Due to the time limited, both of them have to rush to catch their bus back to Philly.I hope the next time we meet again,we have more time to explore the city in and out.
Well,I shop for some perishable, fruit and seafood with Mishu until 7.00pm.I saw everywhere selling fresh Longan.4 lbs for $10.00,that not bad at all!!.Of course the product come from China.I guess now is Longan season, that the reason the price is affordable.I ask for 2 lbs and the vendor owner told me it's $6.00.Well,I said " Ah Mo ,how come $6.00?".Your price tag wrote 4 lbs for $10.00!.Then the 'Ah Mo' told me "Ah Chea then buy 4 lbs!!.I talk back to her"Ah Mo,I myself can't finish 4 lbs, come on'!!.The vendor owner keep talking to other customers.Alright,I'm walk away from her since everybody on the street selling fresh Longan as the same price. The vendor owner call me back"Ah Chea ,ok...ok...$5.00 for you!!".She stash the longan in plastic bag to me.I quickly pay her and walk away with 2 lbs of fresh Longan happily.Lesson numbers one!...treat Chinatown in NYC like any Chinatown in the world, have to bargain unless they price is really low and limited supply.Lesson numbers two...bring cash instead of credit or debit cards to avoid paying sales tax!.Lesson numbers three....never buy any item on the spot, walk few more stores to survey the prices first!!.
Wow!!.My longan is really sweet and juicy.I regret that I should buy 4 lbs instead of 2lbs!

Beachlover, don't worried about it. While waiting for you we did some shopping :) We have to do this again. A few hours in Chinatown is not enough. I saw some longan and so tempted to buy but is just too heavy to carry it all the way to Philly. Thanks for meeting up with us :)

Yes,all the longan is fresh, you can buy in stalk and leave attached but I refused to buy that bcoz the stalk I rugi 5 biji longan weight.I think Chicago Chinatown do sell fresh longan too since it's the season now. So far I didn't see any chempedak, but I saw Nangka sell by the street vendor b4.
Wah, so 'syiok' shopping in Chinatown NYC. If I lived any closer to you gals, I sure join the 'chi mui' outhings..
Those longan looks so good. Must go to Vietnamese store and see if I have any luck. If not, I will just settle for the canned longan. Isk isk!!!
