S.O.S Live Earth

The Live Earth concerts on 7/7/07 were the first step towards a global solution to the climate crisis. Our goal is to turn commitment into action--with help from our partners at Avaaz.org, a global online advocacy group at the forefront of the climate change movement. (Avaaz means "voice" in many languages.) Starting soon, you'll be hearing from Avaaz directly. But we wanted to alert you right away to the first opportunity to have an impact: this Thursday, Avaaz will deliver a global petition calling for action on climate change to the new Foreign Minister of Britain. Click this link to add your name to the petition now. Live Earth was created to launch a multi-year campaign, led by organizations around the world, to end the climate crisis. The concerts awakened millions of people to the need for change--with concerts on every continent, and "Friends of Live Earth" events and house parties in almost every country on earth. Turning this awareness into reality will require the efforts of individuals, corporations, and governments everywhere. That's why we're working with partner groups like Avaaz.org--to make sure the message is heard. Avaaz.org is a member-driven organization based on a simple idea: that the views and values of the world's people should inform global decision-making.
Since it launched this January, its members have become a powerful voice on issues like poverty and human rights--and, most of all, climate change, with nearly 400,000 members from more than 180 countries signing its petition to world leaders. This massive petition helped push climate change to the top of the G8 agenda, and has been hand-delivered to top officials from Germany to Brazil (making international headlines every step of the way). This Thursday, the petition will be delivered to the staff of the new Foreign Minister of the United Kingdom. The brand-new British government has already shown a willingness to listen to the world's people; in fact, the Foreign Minister's first speech was co-hosted by Avaaz last Thursday. This is the perfect moment to deliver a petition that can focus the new British government on the top issue facing humanity--the climate crisis. To sign the petition--or forward it to friends and family--just click here. This summer and fall, Avaaz will organize an unprecedented and vitally important global campaign for a new global treaty on climate change pollution. You'll hear from them a few times per month, always with specific actions you can take to change the world. What we've done together already is amazing. And it's just the beginning. Look out for emails from Avaaz.org soon!.

The Alliance for Climate Protection and Live Earth Live Earth was just the beginning. Live Earth brought together millions of people to start a movement to solve the climate crisis, and we couldn't have done it without the help of our non-profit partner the Alliance for Climate Protection. The newly-created Alliance will start a campaign to convince people from all walks of life about the importance, urgency and solvability of the climate crisis. They are working globally to advance the principles outlined in Live Earth's 7-Point Pledge. Keep an eye out for an email from the Alliance for Climate Protection and check out their website at http://www.joinliveearth.org/page/m/asLWA8SEPUp/i0hSyf for climate solutions, heroes, and inspiration. Click one of the many images on http://www.joinliveearth.org/page/m/asLWA8SEPUp/i0hSyf to get more information on what you can do to solve the climate crisis. Let's all continue to make a difference!
